If you have shopped the aisles at Southside you’ve probably noticed the beautiful countertops complimenting our vanities. Many of these countertops are cultured marble. So, what is cultured marble and how is it created?
What is Cultured Marble?
Cultured marble is a man-made material that is an affordable alternative to natural stone for countertops, vanities, sinks, shower walls, and more. Because it is custom created, cultured marble is available in many different styles, colors and designs and it can be molded into almost any shape. When sealed, it is low maintenance, easy to clean, and resists mold and mildew. Because it is often created as one unique piece, it is seamless unlike some natural stone alternatives.
How is Cultured Marble Created?
Cultured marble is made from crushed natural marble or marble dust, combined with resin and color pigments which allow for custom designs, swirls and combinations. Once this process has been cured, the surface is finished with a gel coat and buffed as a protectant.
Cultured marble is a beautiful and durable alternative to granite and natural stone. It’s also generally about 40-50% less expensive than a stone alternative. At Southside Building Center you can custom order a vanity to fit your space and customize the adjoining cultured marble top as well.
