School has started, Labor Day cookouts will soon be a pleasant memory and fall will quickly give way to honest-to-goodness winter weather. Is your house ready? Before you dig out your winter clothes and extra blankets, take a good look at Southside Building Center’s insulation options for your
home:
Floor and wall fiberglass: DIY-friendly because it’s the simplest type to install and costs are reasonable. You can find floor and wall fiberglass in rolls or batts suited for standard studs and joist placement. Your only caveat is that floor and wall fiberglass can settle and need to be re-applied in certain areas.
Spray Cans of Insulating Foam Sealant: You can fine-tune your control of insulation with insulating foam sealant. The spray can easily be directed to seal up gaps, drafty holes or any hard-to-reach spots. Its efficiency can’t be beat since the sealant expands to about a hundred times its volume and doesn’t settle much. The only disadvantage is that this type is usually the most expensive.
Blown-in or blow-in insulation: Some areas can be difficult but not impossible to insulate. When you need to insulate around an obstruction or within enclosed existing walls, finished areas or irregularly shaped areas, choose blown-in insulation. You will need special equipment which you can rent from us. The good news is that when you purchase this type of insulation from us, the rental is absolutely free!
Outdoor spigot insulation: Around the side of your house and near the back door, your outdoor spigots need protection from freezing. You’ll find a varied assortment of faucet covers and freeze caps a Southside to do the job.
