DIY’ers love Southside because we have such great prices, great selection, and we offer great advice! And that includes how to transport things home from the store easily and safely.
If a homeowner purchases a granite countertop, it’s important to understand that it must be transported very carefully. Granite is a hard stone, and once it is installed, it’s just about indestructible. But during transit, it’s easy to put pressure on it that will cause cracks.
Like a piece of glass, granite countertops need to be moved vertically, on their edge, with the unpolished side down. As you can see in the picture, our countertops come in a frame that will help support it in this position. If you don’t purchase from us, it’s important that the countertop not fall over, so you may need to build a frame, or put in other supports. In an SUV, you may be able to lay down one seat and lean the granite slab against the site that is upright.
It’s a bit of extra effort, but it pays off in a beautiful countertop that will last for a lifetime!
