If you’re looking to lower your energy bills by insulating areas of your home, Southside Building Center’s got you covered. When it’s cold outside, you might notice that certain areas of your home feel a little colder. Here’s a quick primer of the different types of insulation that can keep you warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Floor and wall fiberglass: Comes in rolls or batts suited for standard studs and joist placement, this type is the simplest for a DIY to install and is relatively inexpensive. The only disadvantage would be that in time, this type of insulation can settle and may need to be re-applied in certain areas.
Spray Cans of Insulating Foam Sealant: This spray can seal up gaps, drafty holes or any hard-to-reach spots. It expands to about a hundred times its volume and doesn’t settle much. This type’s very efficient, but it’s also the most expensive.
Blown in or blow-in insulation: This type of insulation works well for enclosed existing walls, finished areas, irregularly shaped areas or insulating around an obstruction. It requires special equipment, which you can rent from us. In fact, when you purchase….the rental is free! <<
What does your home need? With the right insulation, you can keep everyone comfortable for a lot less while increasing your R Values. Insulation can bring your R values up to a range of r13 to r38. Don’t know what R Values are? Stay tuned…we’ll be talking about that soon.
In the meantime, drop by and let’s talk about it. We’d love to help you lower your energy bills.
