We sell – and build – all sorts of doors at Southside – standard or custom, inside or outside, fiberglass or steel, and a lot more besides. When you need a new door, you’ll need to give us a few specifications, and we’ll do the rest.
One of the big questions we’ll ask you is “Does the door swing right or left?” This is where people get the most confused, but we have an easy way for you to tell! It’s called the butt to butt method.
Go to where your door is – or will be – now. Stand with your back (and your butt) to the door hinges (which are on the butt of the door). If the door swings to your right, it’s a right hand swing. It’s a left hand swing if it goes to the left.
For an exterior door, you also need to add if it’s opening to the inside or the outside. Again – with your back to the hinges, is the door swinging to the exterior of the house or the interior?
So, if your front door needs replacing, and you want us to make you a custom door, go to your door, and put your back against the hinges. If the door swings with your right hand to the interior of your house, you have a right hand interior swing
No matter how your door swings, we can help you at Southside. Come on in, and let our professional quality service team help you make sure your door is swinging the correct way!
