Laminate flooring is built to be beautiful and to last for a long time. There are actually several layers of material that make this possible.
First of all, there is the outer decorative layer, consisting of an overlay and a design layer that varies in thickness according to the quality of the floor. At the bottom, you’ll find a watertight layer that helps to protect the floor from moisture, and give it stability.
In the middle is a composite core, made out of a special fiberboard. There are two different densities of this fiberboard – High and Medium. High Density Fiberboard (HDF) is manufactured from wood fibers that are mixed with a binder, then heated and pressed to create the precise fit that is needed for a quality floor. As the name suggests, Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is not so dense as the HDF. It’s made from inexpensive wood waste, and many flooring manufacturers use it because it is cheaper.
The KronoSwiss flooring at Southside only uses the superior HDF, which is very important for durability, water resistance, hardness, scratch resistance. That’s not just KronoSwiss – that’s all the Swiss flooring. Even our .97 7mm – our lowest price floor – is made out of the HDF. That’s an amazing value for a budget line floor.
And we have a huge selection for you to choose from. Colors, sizes, and grades, including AC 5 commercial! When you purchase a floor with HDF, you know you’re getting a superior quality floor. When you purchase at Southside, you know you’re getting a great price! Always the best – for less!
