Dreaming in Color: Red, White and Blue at Southside
If you want to see an active and living cultural melting pot, drop by Southside Building Center any day of the week. The people you’ll find behind the cash register and working on the floor come from all over – from sea to shining sea and places beyond.
Folks around here are the American dream embodied. We’re from all sorts of backgrounds. You’ll meet people who’ve served their country in the Middle East – or worked overseas as educators. Gordon Green, the owner of Southside, pulled himself up by his own bootstraps. Others of us have navigated the rough waters of the immigration system. We are the melting pot, that wonderful mix of everything that makes our country so great.
And when you observe the folks who choose to shop at Southside, you’ll see the same sort of diversity – from laborers to entrepreneurs to moms and retirees – they come from all over. You might see grandparents who bring their grandchildren along or husbands who bring their wives (and vice versa). They may be building their first home, shopping for a home improvement project or just looking for inspiration.
Right now they’re living the American dream in a place we’re blessed to call home.
So today, on the fourth of July, we pause to take a look at our beautiful land, and give thanks for the blessing that she has been to all of us.
May God bless America, and may He grant you and yours a happy Fourth of July!
