Installing laminate floors is one of the most popular DIY projects. Almost anyone with basic carpentry and measuring skills can create a gorgeous floor that looks like it has been professionally done.
The basic tools needed for floor installation aren’t very expensive. We sell kits that contain a tapping block, pullbar, and spacers right here at Southside.
But there is one item that isn’t included in the basic installation kit, and that’s a tool to cut the flooring itself. If you have a circular saw, the simple solution would seem to be to use that. There are a couple of problems with that idea.
First off, cutting laminate flooring with a saw blade is incredibly noisy and dusty work, so you have to cut outside, then haul the cut pieces inside. The second problem is that a laminate floor will dull a saw blade very quickly. Most people find they have to discard their used blade after their floor is finished. It’s not uncommon to have to replace a costly blade in the middle of a job.
That’s why at Southside we’ll rent you a laminate floor cutter. We have a couple of models – the D-Cut MH-460 and the D-Cut model L-230, both of which do a great job. They rent for $50 per day, which is not much more than what you’ll spend on a new saw blade. (Hint: If you rent on Saturday, you don’t have to bring it back until Monday.)
If you’re installing a laminate floor, we highly recommend renting a laminate floor cutter to save you time, money, and steps! It’s just another example of how you’ll find bargains – and advice – on every aisle at Southside.
PS If you’re doing lots of floor installation, we sell the MH-460 for $375 and the LX-230 for $275.
